## The Dot in the Middle

The name poem.md is almost too plain to notice. Two brief parts, held apart by a single dot. I like that dot. It is a pause you can see. A poem often works the same way: it says a little, then stops, and the stop belongs to the meaning.

You do not need a grand place to keep a feeling. Sometimes a short name is enough. You remember it. You come back. The coming back is already a kind of care.

## What the Letters Can Hold

I do not need the letters after the dot to stand for a system. Read slowly, they can mean "made." A poem is something made by attention, even when the only work is choosing which sentence to keep and which one to let go.

They can also suggest midday: the hour when light is plain and nothing has to perform. Good lines often sound like that hour. They do not raise their voice. They set a cup down and let you notice the steam.

- A pause that does not hurry you
- A few true sentences, kept where you can find them

## October, and the Keeping

On a day like this, the seventeenth of October, the light leaves early. People close a window and keep what matters near: a letter, a recipe, a line someone said at the right time. poem.md feels like that kind of keeping. Not a museum. A pocket.

A poem does not have to solve the day. It can sit beside it. If you are tired, it can be short. If you are lonely, it can be company without asking you to perform. The meaning in the name is simple: make a small place for words, and visit it when the larger world is too loud.
